SGMP No Mercy by nyce1s
Tracks are cooling off once-again in the Northern hemisphere, so we go down to Georgia at South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) where nyce1s has edited the 5th event on a 1/8 mile track. OK I know not many go for the 1/8 mile but in this vid the action is launching hard and cleared for takeoff! You have to gear your machine for the 1/8 so these machines are topped out at the end of the run. Hard to find good editing of any event where the filming puts you in the pits and down on the track and nyce1s takes us there.
SGMP is in Cook County Georgia on Interstate 75, north of Valdosta and south of Adel, where they’re running through December. One claim to fame is “The Strip With Grip” you will experience this in the vid.
What a MONSTER! Ever wonder what would happen if you put a 540ci Hemi engine with a MASSIVE Whipple screw blower on alcohol in a 63 Chevy Impala? Well it would probably look a lot like “The Gudfar” (Norwegian for Godfather). Owned by Jamond Haug and his brother at the Ozark Raceway Park and at the I29 Dragway for some No Prep Races and we were blown away by how gorgeous this thing is. With this Monster making well over 2000-hp to the tires, it looks insane going down the strip! Traction is NOT on the Gufar’s side…going up, down and side to side, before it makes its way across the finish line, surprisingly winning with very little traction in many races!

OK going to end the year with the Pro Mods running out in Maryland (MD). Pro Mod is one of the most competitive in drag racing and with the Supercharged going head to head with the Nitro Turbos the 1\4 mile is a real battle field, “where the weak are killed and eaten.” That phrase comes off the New York Motorsport 57 Chevy where he runs a 5.92 @ 249.12 mph, man that’s rolling. Also a few Canadians show up to add to the competition. The film producer is TheRacingVids and I really enjoy the presentation of the event, you’re down on the track with little narrative that’s only coming from the loud-speaker. The film is HD and the sound quality fills your ears for some ground pounding action, close in camera work makes you feel you’re there.
This style of media is coming on strong and I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of it in 2015 and with that we all have to work hard in bringing us on a True North Course if we’re to ever fill the grandstands again. It will happen, just have to remove the Jack Wagons who cause all the corruption from local to financial right down to Nuclear waste and we know who they are right? You’re welcome.

Les Mayhew is NitroAmerica
Would like to take the time today to introduce to you a film producer by the name of Les Mayhew. With today’s technology individual film makers are doing a better job then the networks ever did. NitoAmerica is Les Mayhew and his effort in putting you at the track is what he does best. From his many films which he quotes “This Channel is dedicated to fans of Nitromethane–fueled Drag Racing” and your going racing with some of the best film at the drag strip. Cam in-car, Cam under car, Cam on top, Cam at launch, Cam track side, Cam in the Pits and even in the bleachers, NitroAmerica brings the race to your monitor as if you were there, thanks man!
Not everybody is a natural at filming and sometimes you don’t hear or see of these individuals and sadly not witness their craft. Like Les Mayhew your going to see slow Mo of tire launch the popping of the cylinders and frames twisting as the car leap from the line. Also I would like to mention his mix of editing alone with real sound is done quite well, we all know the GoPro camera has poor audio quality but he does not rely on that sound alone through out any of his films, he packing some high-end equipment and utilizes all of it once his editing is done.

I first posted Les over at Nothing but Rubber and the man out did himself in this film, now out to that post. Race Season Starts Smoking
What a Smoke
The Gasser is the predecessor of the modern Funny Car, the name arose because they were a gasoline-fueled class rather than using methanol or nitro-methane. Such classic ‘door-slammers’ were known to be the first type of drag race car to gain company sponsorship. The Gassers became fan favorites as big name racers often ran grudge matches for crowd entertainment. Gassers and Fuel Altered cars were the top drag racing classes prior to Top Fuel Dragsters, Funny Cars and Pro Stock. The “Gasser War’ years are defined as 1955-1968 when they ruled drag strips across the country in the United States, in the late 1950s and continued until the early 1970s. Gassers were based on production models from the 1930s to mid 1960s, which have been stripped of extraneous weight and jacked up using a truck beam axle to provide better weight distribution on acceleration (Beam axles are also lighter than an independent front suspension), though a raised stock front suspension is common as well. Common weight reduction techniques include fiberglass body panels, stripped interiors and plexiglass windows.
